“violets in a star cluster”
Amy Earles
7″ x 10″
$400.00
Amy earles is another of the artists in the “winsome playground” show which opens this friday. I think I originally ram across her on flickr? Her works are so finely detailed, the paper dolls put together with mini brads being my favorites. I love pieces that tell a story and hers are full of fairy tales and imagination. We first showed her in our “oceanic” show last july, where her only piece sold out before the show opened! (She did send us some paper doll sets, one of which is a mermaid and octopus like her oceanic piece. They are bound to go fast, so get here early if you want to snag one for yourself!)

“diversion”
Jennifer Davis
Acrylic and graphite on board
12″ x 16″
$450.00
Work has been coming in for our upcoming show, “winsome playground“, which opens a week from today. I am really excited about this show! These are three of my favorite artists. Their styles are so very different, but they all are so delicately detailed and so full of imagination. Like story tales come to life.
Jennifer will be at the opening reception. I’m very excited to meet her! I first saw her work in person last summer when Beau and I were traveling across the country and we stopped in to see martha in Minneapolis. Jenn had a show at the SOO visual art center at the time. I’m really excited we got her for a 3 person show, as she sent so many amazing pieces! Check them out on the website…. and if you’re in town next weekend stop by and say hi to us and Jennifer! They are even more amazing in person. You really need to see the detailed artistry up close!

feels like i’ve been away from my computer forever! kinda took the day off… and sorta yesterday too i guess. was really good to have some down time :)
this is what the show looks like. friday night was pretty cool. not as many people out as we had hoped, but some is some, right? :) it was so weird to have enough room to just evenly space out the paintings, one by one. totally new for me. all the other shows have been more salon style groupings.
anyhoo.
yesterday we went to the aquarium for the start of octopus week. and Boy am i glad i don’t work weekends! it was crazy packed. too crowded to get close to the octopus tanks. i’m sure i’ll get updated on what happened on my shift thursday. was fun to be there as a guest, tho.
so tired. (even after today’s nap???!) tomorrow is monday already! yay. phewf. better rest up some more….. zzzzzzzzzzzzz

yikes what a fun/busy day! i made shelves! see the three skinny white ones back in the corner? :) yep! just wide and tall enough to fit stacks of prints, with a little lip on the front to keep them standing up in there by themselves. Quite the improvement over our last system of taped-down metal bookends :)
and we painted almost all of the walls. (dang they are high) the white we had was slightly off, the white left behind didn’t match, and there seemed to be 3 different white colors/patches already on the walls! we got by last month because the art was so big it covered so much of the walls, and you needed to step back to see the it. This month the pieces are small and you’ll have to be right up on them. So we picked the worst wall first and then kept going as time and paint supply would allow :)
i think it looks a lot better! but we still have to hang everything tomorrow! good times. can’t wait to have pics of the opening to post! good night :)

i was reminded again how big wall painting is much more tiring than little canvas painting! my wrists get really tired. i’m weak. put a couple coats of white in the room upstairs at the new gallery space. We don’t have any lights up there yet, so it was just by the light from the skylight, which isn’t a lot when it’s cloudy out and the sun goes down so fast in the winter. was kinda funny to see what it looked like the next day! maybe i should ask if i could paint a big ninja on one of the walls. or all of them. hm. that might be more fun!

Suite 100 opened it’s door for the first time at its new location! It was an exciting night… we kept the old spot open during the Belltown Art Walk, from 6-8 pm, then closed those doors for the last time. The new space stayed open til 10. change is exciting, but i am always a bit sad to leave the old. i’ll be sentimental and nostalgic about the old space for awhile, i’m sure. It was a cozy little spot. So now we move on to a larger space and new adventures. i wonder what 2009 will bring…
(You can check out the show here.)
